A few days ago, whilst attempting to type in an apostrophe in an article here, I found that doing so brought up the 'quickfind' box at the lower-left corner of the browser. This basically disabled me from typing in the said character. So I resorted to doing my typing in 'Word', and then copying and pasting it here. Quite tedious. Well, I discovered a solution whilst trawling through the net - I’m not for getting used to a ‘bad thing’ as I realised a couple of decades ago that it tends to encourage such an attitude in other seemingly unrelated arenas. I often said that when you detect a bad attitude, it signals an entire army of such an attitude waiting just on the other side of a nearby mount for the go ahead of a seemingly discountable ‘recce squad’ seeking an attitudinal lapse on our part.
Alright,
so here is a short video I made illustrating how we can get past the
problem. It is the first video I made of
a screen-act, so please excuse any deficiencies. It's best if you see it in full-screen. Just click on the centre square icon in the video.
Instructions
1. open a new tab
2. type in ‘about:config’ in the address bar
3. depress the button on the screen stating ‘I promise I’ll be careful’, or something to that effect
4. right-click on any part of the page that appears and choose ‘New’, then ‘Boolean’
5.
type in ‘searchkeys.disable.all’. This ought to highlight the relevant line on the page.
6. scroll down to the highlighted line, right-click on it, and click on the ‘toggle’ word. This will change the ‘false’ to ‘true’.
7. You're done. Just close the tab.
